FINAL DAY ENDS WELL Exciting Racing In Glorious Weather "TQTE" SHOWS SLIGHT DROP. In glorious weather a most successful two-days racing came to an end at the Napier Park racecourse on Saturday afternoon and 'although the total isator returns showed a decrease of over £900 compared with the figures for the two days of the Autumn meeting last year, the Napier Park Racmg Club can cougratulate itself upon an ultra-suecessful meeting as far as sport was concerned, every finish on the final day being of the close variety, to the particular pleasure of the large crowd assembled on the. lawns. Throughout the day, the club officials and the jockeys all wore blaok armlets in memory of the late Mr James Landels. a 'staunch supporter of the Napier . Park Club and a well-known figure on Hawke's Bay racecourses. In presenting the silver cup to the owner of Tourist, the winning horse, the president, Mr C. E. Twist, expressed particular pleasure at the fact that the big race had been won by Mr J. MeLaughlin, wlio had for anumher of years been a. resident of Taradale. The jockey, C. Gouldsbro, also received a gold mounted whip. 1 The totalisator showed a slight decrease on last year's figures the total for the day heing £16,111, compared with £17,094 for the second day last year. The total for the two days was £28,473, a decrease of £948 from last year's total of £29,421. The following are the ooncluding results : — PRESIDENT'S CUP HANDICAP, Of 232 sovs. ; 7 furlongs. 7. Also started: 1 Pahu, 5 Rich Harvest, 4 High Society, 3 Merry Melody. Cloyne went away with a rush- from a fair start, leading Pahu, Merry Melody, Royal Opera, Tourist and Rich Harvest. At the top he had increased his advantage and round the bend was four lengths ahead of Pahu and Merry Moment bunched, with Royal Opera, Tourist and Rich Harvest. Into the straight Cloyne stijl held his lead on the rails, but Tourist shot out from the 'back well on the outside and in another splendid finish got home by a nose from Royal Opera, who also came away in great style. Cloyne was only a head back, while Merry Melody rau into fourth place. Time, Imin. 26 3-5 secs. Huikai made the _ running at the start, with Crown Link and Rory Mor lying next, but going round the back Crown Link went away to the front, with Rory Mor, Huikai, Pale Star and Tiega bunched in that order. This was the order at the top and on to the bend into the straight, when Rory M'or drew up, challengmg hard and Huikai came up on the outside. In a great race down the straight Crown Link dropped back and Rory Mor came through to win by a length from Huikai. with Pale Star third, half a length back. Time, lmin. 53secs. Don Quixote and Wedding Bells showed the way at the start, but when the field settled down Don Quixote was leading Falcon, Kimbo, Wedding' Bells, Physco and Royal Court in that order. Into the straight the order was the same with Physco and Royal Court coming up on the outside. In a. great race tothe post Kimbo challengedhard, but could not catch the 'leader, who reached home by two lengths, with Wedding Bells four length 'back. Hand Over was fourth. Time, lmin. 14 l-5s§cs. ST PATRICK'S HANDICAP, Of 175 sovs. ; six furlongs. 1 ROYAL DUKE— R. J. Murphy's b.h., 4yrs., Tea Tray — Persis, B. H. Morris, 8.4 ... 1 2 KAIHORO— P, F. Wall's blk.m., 4yrs., H. Gray, 8.6 2 5 — BONOGNE — Brown and Kneebone's ch.g., aged., T. Green., 8.1 3 Also started : 3 Aston and 4 Cuticle. Aston and Kaihoro, as on the first dy, made the running from the start with Royal Duke, Bonogne and Cuticle running next in that order. The two leaders strung out from the rest of the field for a space and then, rounding the bend into the straight, Royal Dnke commenced to come up in great style. Kaihoro led into the straight, however, but half way down Royal Duke, galloping hard, drew level and in another fine finish caught the judge's eye by half a length, with Kaihoro only a neck ahead of IBonogne.
