SEQUEL TO WEDDING
TOO MUCH CELEBRATION.
HASTINGS RESIDENT ST-RIKES TROUBLE. At the Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning, heiore Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., a middle-aged man was charged with on March 1930, being a person wlio was drunk _ in the Albert Hotel, he refused to quit tlie premises when requested to do so by a servant of the licensee. He was also charged with using obscene language in the bar of the Albert Hotel. Mr E. J. Hallett appeared for accused and pleaded guilty to both charges. Senior-S'ergeant Dempsey prosecuted and stated - that .defendant was on a drinking bout. He was put out of the hotel several times and used the language eomplained of. He eventually refused to leave the hotel and "the police were called in. jMr Halett said that accused was a Mr Hallett' said that accused was a this was liis first appearance in court. The trouble was tlie result of celebrations at his daughter's wedding and accused did not remember anytliing of wliat had liappened. His Worship said he was not so much concerned in regard to the first charge. but the second was a serious one and had the language been lieard by any women in the street there would have been no alternative but imprisomnent. On the first charge, tlie fine was £1, costs 2s. and on the seeond £5, costs 10s. The accused : , Thank you, sir. His Worship: You've nothing to thank me for. I only hope you won't come back here. Mr Hallett made application for the suppression of tlie name. His Worship said this was a difficult question. His practice had been to use his power in this direction only in the case of young people who had acted rather foolishly. Under the circumstances, liowever, and in view of tlie fact that accused was an elderly man who had never been in trouble before, he woukl stretch a point and make the order.
