CONTRQL OF THE PORT OF NAPIER. MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD.
Mr A. E. Jull presided over the monthly meeting of the Napier Harboiir Board to-day. Also present : Messrs J. H. Joll, N P. Eriksen, J. S- ^r0n^s' ^ Higgins, B. B. Creagh, P. W. Peters, G. MeKay, and H. Anderson. Leave of absence was granted Messrs J. C. Bryant, E. A. Goodger, W. J. Lyon, J. J. Langridge and G. O. Lowe. I Messrs Barnard and Nash wrote asking the board to nse a new "saveall," which Mr T. Kerr, of Westshore, intended to patent, "in bandling coal from the boats. It was decided to advxse_ the writers to tak© the matter UP with the shipping companies. The Bank of New Zealand advised that the interest rate on the board's overdraft had been increased to 7 per I cent, the chairman remarking that as the board's account at the bank was in credit the board was not affected. He added that in view of the oscillations in international interest rates the board had sent a 60-da.y draft of mteiest accruing in London Messrs Richardson and Co. wrote urging the board to favourably consider abolisliing the harbonrmaster's foes on vessels moving for hunkering, as no service was granted beyond giving permission for the vessel to? move. The board referred the request to the finance committee to go into the matter of amending the hv-laws., The secretary reported that th© following contracts had been let since last - meeting of the board r — Repairs j and renewals to dredge "Apiti" cutter- ' head, J- J. Niven and Co.. Ltd.. £49 : reuairs to No. 2 grah bf dredge "J.D.O Vulcan Foundry £55- 13s.
