A BRAVE SHOWING

(ASTERS, ZINNIAS AND DAHLIAS. NAPIER HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY' S SHOW. A blaze of colour in varying shades greeted tfti& eye of visitors to the Napier Horticultural Society' s annual show of asters, dahlias and zinnias at the Napier Eoresters' Hall to-day. A verv fine selection of blooms had "been placed ont to advantage on the ■tables and the judge, Mr F. Daly, had a difficult task in selecting the winning blooms, so high was the general gtandard of the exliibits. An exhibit of particular interest was the fine display of dahlias made hy Mr 'J. N. Anderson and Son, Ltd., the. showing of the blooms of difiterent varieties on the table of this enterprising firm being the finest seen in Napier for a very long time. Visitors to the show spent for th© most part a considerable time in admiration'of this exhibit. A large number of visitors attended the show throughont the day and the general impression seemed to be that tlie showing of dahlias had never been better, whilst asters and zinnias Were also well np to standard. Eor the soccess of the show all credit 5s dne to tlie society' s energetie secretary, Mr K. R. Merritt, who worked so hard in its arrangements. Tho resnlts were as follow: — DAHLIAS. Apperley 2, Eancy, three blooms.— Mrs W. Apperley 1. DOUBLE ASTERS. 12 vases, three blooms each. — W. Howard 1, 2 and 3. Six vases, three blooms each. — W. Howard 1, 2 and 3. Three vases, three blooms each. — W. Howard 1 and 3, E. Baker 2. One vase, three blooms, pink. — W. Howard 1, 2 and 3. One' vase, three blooms, purple. — E. Baker 1 and 2, Miss Gwen Bishop 3.
