RADIO BANKRUPTCY
STATIONS OFF THE AIR The Pacific coast chain of radio stations owned by and affiliated with the American Broadcasting Company, - with headguarters at Seattle, Wasliington, ceased rece'ntly, after :six rweeks ' of . financial trquhle. A receiver was appointed, and the last news was that bankrupcy proceedings were pending. 1 The liabilities were stated to exceed £20,000, including telephone line charges, artists fees and staff salaries. The head of the company, Mr A. F. Lindon, who formerly had many finan-. cial interests in the North-west, was. considered last year to be well on the course of a phenomenal, • career in radio organisati'on th rough his stations, which were to carry advertising programmes on a big scale at high rates. The' career of the company has been meteroie." Early in October of 1928 the American Broadcasting Company, , originated its first chain broadcasting programmes in the, Pacific North-west from its station in Seattle, Spokane and Portland. These stations were owned outright by the company. Tn December its facilities were extended to include two stations in Chlifornia, one in San Francisco ai\d oue in Los Angeles. Tliese were affiliated stations, not owned by the company.
