"GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY" SEASON DRAWING TO CLOSE.

It is a long timo sihce any attraction 'has been seen in New Zealand that has drawn crOwded houses at practically every showing as has, "Gold Diggers of Broadway," the 100 per cent. technicolour talkie woiider fihn, the season of which is now nearing its end at the popular Majestie, Friday next will see the last showing of this stupendous masterpiece in Napier. Last night' s house ' was almost as good as' at the picture' s Napier premiere and tlie audience, as . has been the case right through the picture' s season at the popular Majestie,. were wildly entliusiastic concerning its varied entettairiment qualities.- The big -audit.onum echoed and re-echoed to the laughter that the inane aiitics t of Winnie Liglltner raised, but when Nick Lucas held the stage you could have heard a pin drop, so absorbed were the audieuce in their enjoymeiit of such a vocal treat. Were "Gold Diggers of Broadway" to run for a montli in Napier, it is no exaggeration to predict tliat it would still be doing bumper business at the end of its season and as it is' Napier enthusiasts who have not yet had the enjoyable experience of being amongst its audiences should lose no tinie to assure that they are not lock- . ed out. So far as entertainment is i3concerned, no picture • which has been seen* in Napier previonsly can hold a candfle to this fast-moving. sparkiing satire on the wa.ys of the . Broadway chorus ladies. Despite its satirical note, the main portion of the story was nevertheless extremely human and tlie audience was given an inipression of' actualy living the plot with the pripcipals, so realistic was the manner in whcih this had been handled. The reprodUCtion was absolutelv as perfect as iias ever been heard on the talking screen and the arfc of Nick Tmcas, golden voiced king of Brondway's vaudeville stage, was heard at its very ■ best. His two principal numbers, "Tiptoe Through tlie Tulips" and "Painting the Clouds Witli Sunshine," had Saturday night's audience buhhling over with enthusiasm and from the amount of pleasure they _ produced, these two numbers are goipg to be amongst the most nopular in Napier, ■during the coming dancihg season.-
