ALLEGED OBSQENE LANGUAGE .CHARGE, LIQUOR OBTAINED ON SUNDAY. f TNTOXICATION NO EXCUSE." Two hrothers, Sidney and Mason Tihema, were charged in the Napier Police Court this mox-ning, before Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., with fighting on Meanee Quay on April 6, and also with using obscene language. Sergeant Cooper said that both the young men wei-e under the influence of liquor. Thex-e was a picnic party nearby, but he could not be certain that any women heard the language. Both the accused asked to be allowed to take the witness stand, and eacft pieaded intoxication as an excuse. "Whei-e did you get the liquor — it was a Sunday?" asked Sergeant Cooper. "Frem a hotel at Port Ahuriri," rephed Mason Tihema. "Tntoxication is no excuse for you to fight and use bad language," said the magistrate. Both were fined £1, in default 14 days' imprisonment on the first charge, and £2, or one month, on tlie second.
