FARM LABOURER'S SUICIDE. DEATH FROM POISON.

TE AROHA, Last night. Robert Logan, ,aged , 23, a f.arm labourer, committed suicide by drink--lng poison at the' residence of J. Wickliffe at Gordon on Saturday evening. At the inquest tp-day evidence was given by Mrs Wickliffe -tliat . Logan, who had been nursed by her after an accident in February last, had become oyer friendly, and had , urged her to leave her hqsbgnd and. go away w.ith him. In anticipation of her consOnt' he had sent a suitcase containing her clothes, removetl without her knowledge, to the i-ailway statiion. > ' Logan had been ,in Te Aroha on. Saturday, where he purchased on the pretext of poisonihg rabbits a bottle of poison. In the: evening lie visited Wickliffe' s home, and : after asking for a pad and writing a letter, ' which he placed in his pocket, he drank- the poison. This letter, on the ground tliat it coiitained aspersions on someone's character, the coroner refused to admit as evidence, and the constable who discovered it was not permitted to read it. A verdict of death by poison self administered was reeorded.
