LITTLE CHANGE

IN STORE PENS AT STORTFORD' LODGE. PRICES STILL AT BEDROCK LEVEL. HOW THE BIDDING WENT. The rainfall had very little effect upon the prices ruling for store sheep at Stortford Lodge yards yesterday afternoon, prices on most lines being down to bedrock limits. Three or four of the lines sold went for appreciably less than was paid for them by the vendors six or eight montbs ago. There was not a very big store yarding and amongst those sheep on_ the pens there were no outstanding lines. The sale on stores opened with a pen of 235 sound mo-uth ewes, running with Southdown rams, fair conditioned sheep, offered a run of 100 or more, The auctioneer suggested 17s as a fair starting figure and after a long silenee he managed to extract 10s. The line was eventually knocked down at 15s 9d. A pen of -243 4-year sound mouth ewes running with blackface and Romney rams, a heavier and brighter mob, met with a better response and sold well on ruling values at 20s. A line of 168 2-tooth wethers, earlv shorn, in fair forward condition, exMaraetotara, raised fair competition and sold at 20s 2d. A bid of 19s secured a line of 207 4 and 6-tooth ewes, in lamb to Southdown rams. Looking a little empty after two days on the road, but nevertheless sheep of excellent constitution, 142 empty ewes off the hills in the Olrig vicinity fetched 7s ld. A fair line of 89 fat and forward ewes went at 10s 2d. Brought off the Mangatahi Hills, a somewhat scraggy line of 80 empty ewes fetched only 3s 9d, at which price they were sold subject to vendor's approval. An offer of 8s 6d secured a better line of 51 forward ewes. Two lines of fair conditioned mixed sex lambs were knocked down at 6s 3d and 6s 6d respectively.
