CANTATA "THE ASCENSION"

ST. JOHN'S CATHEDRAL TO- ' MORROW. _ To fittingly mark tbe important festiwal of "Tlie Ascension" tbe above fino work will be rendered at St. John's Catbedral . to-morrow evening instead of the usual sermon. This Cantata, which only takes about thirty-five minutes, contains some brilliant and extremely beautiful music. the organ accompaniment heing particularly fine. Tbe division of the work comprises tlie prophetie vision of the Ascension, Tlie story of the Ascension, includes solos for soprano. tenor and bass and meditation thereon, which contains a superb tenor solo. The brilliant chorus "Triumpb Song" follows which is succeeded 'by the beautiful "Hymn to the Holy Ghost" for quartette and choir, There are four hymns by congregation _ for whom hymn sheets will be provided. The soleists and quartette will be Miss Lilian Frith Csoprano), Nurse Carter (contralto). Mr E. G. Stevenson (tenor) and' Mr H. Steele (bass).
