LAMP EXPLODES

FOUR-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROY- . ED. MAN SUFFERS SEVERE BURNS.
AUCKLAND, This day. As the resuit of a benzuie lanip exploding in a four-roomed liouse on scme afforestation country, ;15 miles from Putaruru, a survev cadet, Mr A-lan Mills, aged 21 years, received severe burns and he was later adniitted to tbe Waikato Hospital. Tlie liouse was compietely destroyecl. The house, which was owned by New Zealand Perpetual Forests, was temporavily occupied by the surveying staff, working in that local ity. Tbe bcnzine lamp was in the room where Mr Mills was working when it exploded. The flames spread rapidly to the house. Mr Mills was severelv burned ahout the face and chest before the others in the house could give him assistance and some of his clothing was burned off him. He was Frought into Putaruru hy motor car and was later taken to the Waikato Hospital. His condition is reported to .he satisfactory. The flames soon obtained a strong bold of the liome and in the abseuce of any fire-fighting equipment it was compietely destroyed.
