CASE CONCLUDES IN AUCKLAND. H03IE VISITING COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION.
AUCKLAND, This day. The case of Cecil Hazlett, a fanner, of North Taieri, near Dunedin, was tenninated in the Supreme Court yesterday, wlien, after surrendering to his bail, he was released from the Salvation Arniy home on Roto Roa Island. Following the Habeas Corpus proceedings, Hazlett was on bail, wliich had been granted at the cominencement of the action, and the time for his surrendel- expired to-day. Accordingly, lie appeared hefore 31r Justice Smith with his counsel, Mr Sullivan, who stated tliat Hazlett was there to surrendel-. Mr Hamel, who appeared for Staff Captain T. Buttimore, Salvation Army officer in charge of the liome, said that the only question to he defcennined was that of costs, and this could be settled later, Mr Sullivan agreeing. His Honour said that, sueh being tlie case, Hazlett was tlien in the c-ustody of Staff Captain Buttimore. The Court tlien rose, and Staff Captain Buttimore was about to take custody wlien Mr Sullivan pvodueed a rccommendation from the home visiting committee recommending that Hazlett's application for his discliarge be acceded to. Staff Captain Buttimore said later that, in view of the recommendation and the fact tliat the period wliich Hazlett liad to spend in tlie home was about to expire, he had agreed to tlie release, and Hazlett was now freetl.
