Negotiations have been in progress for some time past with the Napier Harbour Board and the Napier City Council for tlie secm-ing of the lease of seven acres of the area of 28 acres recently reclaimed and kpown as the 28-acro block, upon wliich it- is mtend ed to erect a stadium to cater for all classes of spoit, amateur and professional. it is claimed tliat the track, wlien completed, will be comparable with any dirt track in the world, the proposed measurements being, straight 40 feet, bends 50 feet. These measurements are 10 feet wider tlian those of the Wellington track, and that speedway is regarded by visiting athletes to be tlie fastest cinder track in tbe world to-day. There is a special limestone ohtainabJe locally and Mr Sutherland claims tliat with the use of this in the eonstruction of tlie Napier stadium there will be 110 faster track in tlie world. It is intended to carry out tlie lighting 011 tlie same system as tliat adoptcd in Wellington, piovision being made toi- 120.000 candlepower. The whole of tbe work generally will entail the expenditure of an amount in the vicinity of £6500. Seating accommodation will be for 70Q0, and it is proposed to hold meetings on 3!onda.v nights to fit in Avith meetings at other centres. The expenditure, it would seem, will, if satisfaetory arrangements are arrived at, provide relief for a number of tlie uneniployed in Napier and district.
