EXAMINATION OF MARINE ENGINEERS.

On the 31st December new regulation* will come into operation for the examination ot marine engineers. In the past, it has been the custom for candidates to present themselves at the Customhouse, but under the new rules this will he done away with. The application for examination is to bo made on ii form which must be filled up and signed by the candidate, and can be obtained at any Customhouse or oflico of an Inspector of Machinery. The form properly filled in, together with the candidate's indentures of apprenticeship or a certificate from an employer that the candidate has worked as an apprentice for five years, and his testimonials and discharges, must be forwarded to the Priucipal Examiner of Engineers at the office of the Chief Inspector of Machinery at Wellington, with an intimation us to the pla.ee at which the candidate desires to be examined. When the application ib filled up at. a place other thau Wellington, and it is a matter of urgency that the candidate should be examined before the principal examiner can notify the local examiner, the candidate must present his application and otheV papers to the local examiner, whe if they are correct will at once forward them to We principal examiner nud proceed with the examination of the candidate. The fee for examination must be scut to the principal examiner along with tho application/ and must be in money or in postal notes. Any candidate who offers money to any officer other than the proper fee to the principal examiner will be considered to have vommitted an act of misconduct, aud will not, be allowed to be examined for twelve months, either at the port where the offence was committed or at any other port.
