ALLEGED MINING FRAUD. 4 OPERATIONS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA. REPORT OF THE COMMISSION. [PKESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received December 2, 9.31 a.m.) PERTH, This Day. The Commission appointed to report on matters connected Avith the Boulder Deep Levels Mine has submitted its repbrt. Tfle Commissioners animadvert on the lax supervision over the assay and samples, the incorrectness of the. assays being either caused by "salting" or the falsification of the books. Commenting on the share transactions consequent on an alleged rich discovery, the report states that Mr. Frank Gardner, Chairman of Directors, held 170,000 out of 230,000 shares issued, and the balance Avas apparently held in London by several mine officials. It Avas also stated that Harold Vickera, avlio made all the assays from the deep levels of the mine, had dealt in shares, and the report accused him of having deliberately perjured himself in giving evidence before the Commission. Vickers, it is alleged, gave information with reference to an aesay to Francis Earp sufficient to effect a considerable share "deal" on their jp-int account. The report concludes: "Although perhaps the actual modus operaridi of the frauds is not dis-, closed, the Commissioners trust that sufficient has been brought to light concerning the practices that obtained in the Boulder Deep Levels Mine to indicate how such an occurrence may, to some extent, be guarded against in the future."
