THE SHOPS ACT.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir, — Sesing that the Cuba-street drapers are so solicitous for their assist- j ants' -welfare ' that they want all the small shops shut at 6 p.m., I think that the. femall shopkeepers should in the same manner consider that those issistants are desirous of a half-holiday on SaUirday, and therefore do all they can to help them to obtain it. This, while/ not injuring themselves, will still further enable those kind gentlemen to improve the position and emoluments of those employed by them. — I- am, etc., TIT FOR TAT.Wellington, 2nd December.
