(.BY TBLKGIUPH. — PEESS ASSOOIdI'IOH.] WANGANUI, 18th September. The football match Wanganui v. Otago was played to-day in beautiful weather, ftnd before -a. large attendance. The gamp resulted in an easy win for Otago by 26 points to 5. Immediately after the start the Wanganui forwards attacked. Hogan dribbled i amartly up the touch-hne, and passing between- Dustin, Aiko'n, and Beckett resulted in the latter scoring behind the posts. Mitchell^ converted. For ft long time the game Was fairly even) tho forwards doing almost all the work. Near the end of the Spell Paton broke away from a line-out at tho Wangfcnui twenty-five, and dribbllag strongly through the opposing backs, scored a pretty try* Eokhold failed to convert. Jnatr on . half-time Chambers . and Dougherty mado ft. pretty passing run down tho touchline, and the forwards carrying the rush on, Abbott scored at the' corner. Paton converted with an excellent kick, and the first spell ended in favour of Otago by 8 to 5. In th« second spell the Wanganuj defence fell to pieces, and Otago had matters pretty well their own way. They opened the frame ont, and thoir backs — Dwyer, Reid, and Chambers in particular—showed some fine play. Eckhold converted. 21 — 5. Just on time Otago attacked strongly. McDonald, Edwards, and MoKoniie pushod over the linei Tho ball ' being heldj Eckhold passed ont. Chambers, Dougherty, Ongley, and Reid made a pretty run, tho .latter being pushed out at tho corner, Eckhold again passed out, and the same, men handling the leather with greater precision Reid scored in a good position. Paton converted, and the bell rang with the scores— Otago 26, Wanganui 5. In the first spell, Oraig, a Wanganui threequarter, was injured in the shoulder and retired, his placo being taken by Seeling, who played feebly, Tho Wanganul men at times showed flashes trf brilliant play ( but lacked combination, and tho men appeared' to suffer fram atalenesa. The Otngo team played With nice combination, and the backs *ah and paaiied with cleverness aHd judgment. Paton) McDonald, Denniston, and Edwards were the best of the forwards. Eckhold played strongly at half. Chambers and Dougherty at five-eighths were good, but not brilliant. Dwyer put in some strong swerve runs and was the best back on tho ground, though Reid's play was of great use to his side. Hogan, Guscott, Ailton, and D. McDonald wore tho pick of tho Wanganui forwards, who held their opponents well. Mitchell, Kilpatridk, and E. M&cDonald were tho best of a weak sot of backs. Mr. H. Tilley was reforce.
