N.Z. ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS
ANNUAL EXHIBITION,
The interest which has been shown by members of the Academy in the exhibition of works by New Zealand and Australian, artists 'at tho Art Gallery in Whifcmore - street has elicited very hearty response from the art lovers of Wellington. Probably at no time in the history of the Academy has there been so much beautiful work on the walls. That the beautiful in our own land —it abounds everywhere in mountain, lake, and dell, in street and garden—has been seen by our artists, is evident from the rare collection of oils and water colours now being shown. Visitors to the exhibition on Saturday were numerous, and their appreciation is manifest in the list of sales already recorded. The recent large increase of new members to the Academy has brought the sum for distribution in the members' art union up to" £142, which, with the foregoing sales from the walls, makes a total of £334 Os 6d, and establishes a record for first-day sales. The members' art union was drawn on Saturday evening in thei presence of a large number of visitors and members. The exhibition will be open to-day from 10 a.m. to 5.20 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Tickets in the public art union are^ now on sale at the Art Gallery. Those joining the Academy as subscribing members receive ten Is tickets.
