HIGH COMMISSIONER
ANOTHER EXTENSION OF TERM.
Cabinet has agreed to a further extension of four months (from 22nd October) in the High Commissioner's term.
The Minister of Internal Affairs (the •Hon. G. W. Russell) remarked to-day that the series of four-monthly extensions began in 1915 (on the conclusion of the statutory three-year period), at the sug-' gestion of Sir Thomas Mackenzie, who' expressed a wish that he should have the option of vacating the office on giving four months' notice. It was desirabl". that this explanation should be r>flde in order to clear away any misapprehension in this matter. The feeling of some persons that there might be som3 uninten^ tional discourtesy in. the lour-monthly arrangement had no form lation in'fset.
