HINDOOS IN NEW ZEALAND
Recently the Minister of Internal Affairs was requested by the President of the New Zealand Federation of Labour and the President of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council to give information of the number of Hindoos in New Zealand.
The census of 1916, says the Minister, showed 165 full-blooded Hindoos and 181 half-castes (including 10 born in, New Zealand). Five of the full-blooded Hindoos and nine of the half-castes were females. In the total of men, 122. had been in New Zealand less than five years. According to the monthly immigration returns, 224 Hindoos arrived in New Zealand and' 22 departed from Ist November, 1916, to 31st August, 1918. Therefore the number now would be approximately 333.
