Independence Day celebrations on Thursday took toll of 159 lives, a decrease of 46 from 1928, with a reduction in drownings, heat prostrations, and deaths from automobile accidents of 70. At Grand Haven (Michigan) ten bathers were drowned in .Lake Michigan, being swept from tfhe shore by a heavy undertow before the eyes of hundreds unable to render assistance.
