AWAPUNI GALLOPS

PALMERSTON N., This Bay. Following upon, the heavy rain overnight, the tracks were sloppy this morning at Awapuni. It was an off morning for the majority of the local contingent, but a number of visitors speeded their horses up. Fast work was carried out on the course proper, the flags being about 42ft from the rails.
Piuthair was going better than Imperial Spark at the end of a mile in lmin 57sec, the last three furlongs taking 4osec.
Noteworthy ran home from the fivefurlong post in lmin lOJsec. _^King Acre left half a mile behind in 57see, the last three furlongs taking 43 2-ssec.
Bon Jose had the measure of Rioghail over five furlongs in lmin 9Jsec, the last three taking 57 2-ssec. Phastar was clear of Nightdew at the end of six furlongs in lmin 24 4-ogee. Royal Duke and Oral left three furlongs behind in the smart time of 40 2-ssee.
Rabbi required lmin 44isee to complete a seven furlongs task. The first furlong was done in 16sec. His trainer is not anxious to Tun him at Manawatu, and prefers to wait until the Wellington Cup. Myrota scampered over three furlongs in 43sec.
Dancing Star, after running the first furlong in 14 3-ssec, got to the cud of half a mile in 55 4-ssec.
Hoylake, a Cup candidate, trotted on the No. 2 grass. The grey horse looks very well.
Askari and Royal Mission set out on a round over the battens, but the latter baulked a fence at the back and unshipped his rider. Askari completed his task. Royal Mission was persevered with, and jumped a couple of fences.
Aurora Borealis was also schooled over a round, which she accomplished quite satisfactorily.
Aspiring went North on Saturday night, to compete in the Railway Handicap. •
After breakfast the conditions became even worse.
H. Cutts restricted Full Feather, Ball Dress, Hurly Burly, and Semper Paratus to pace work on the course proper.
Vinella and Tea Taster, with substantial weights, ran six furlongs in lmin 26 3-ssec, after doing the first three furlongs in 41 4-osec. They were the T>nly pair asked to speed up at this stage.
