CUSTODY OF THE DOG

A Judge in the Berlin Divorce Court was required to decide which of the parties to the action should have the custody of their dog. The husband wanted the divorce, and after all sorts of financial and family questions had been settled with difficulty, the wife consented to let him have his freedom. She suddenly remembered their pet dog (says the Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Mail"), ana declared that unless it were handed over to her she would never, never consent to the divorce.

"Will you let your wife have /the dogi" asked the Judge. The husband: "Certainly not. Out of the question!"

The wife: "I would rather die than give up the dog." After long arguments on both sides the Judge ordered that the husband should have the custody of the dog on condition that the wife should visit it once a week and take it for. a fourhours' walk.
