THE BEEBY ORDER
VALIDITY TO BE TESTED
STATE CALLS TO HIGH COURT
SYDNEY, 22nd December. The coal position underwent no change to-day, but the State Government took steps to test Judge Beeby's order lor reopening the mine 3 'at prestoppage rates.
Application was made to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia to-day tor a summons to compel the parties to the coal dispute to appear before tho High Court in order to determine the validity of Judge Beeby's order. The matter comes before the High Court on Monday. ROTHBURY STILL TO BUN. The Premier, Mr. Bavin, announced that the Government intends to continue operations at Eothbury colliery until the High Court gives its ruling as to the legality of the Government's action. Meanwhile tho Government will not proceed with the plans to reopen additional mines with free labour. All the coal mines in southern and western New South Wales, which have been working at high pressure since the dispute began last March, have closed down for tho Christmas and New Year holidays. means that the coal reserves for the railways and gasworks will be seriously depleted within a few days.
