CROSSING FATALITY
ONE MAN KILLED; ANOTHER INJURED V

TIMAEXJ, 23rd December.
Shortly after 11 o 'clock this morning fen accident occurred at the Winchester railwej crossing, fifteen miles north, ol Timarn, as the result of which Horace William Westaway, aged 24, married, residing at Milford, lost his " Ife, and John M'Auliffe, aged 19, also residing at Milfora, is in.hospital in a serious condition.
The two men were in a motor-truck, Vvhieh was being driven by M'AulifEe, who apparently did not see or hear the approach of the ChristchurchDanedin express. M'Auliffe drove into the _ crossing, and the car struck the engine. It was hurled against a telegraph pole, and completely wrecked. The men, who were seriously injured, were conveyed to Timaru '. y a later train., and then to the hospital, where Westaway died late in the afternoon. The condition of M'Auliffie, who is suffering from a fracture of the Elyril and. abdominal injuries, is serious.
