UNAPPETISING REVELATIONS.
By Telegraph—Press Association
Christchurch, last night. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day Sydney Day, a outeher, oi Sydenham, was charged with having for sale unwholesome meat. Evidence was given that the carcase in question, which showed signs ot pleurisy and tuberculosis, was bought for small goods, sausages, etc. Several Butchers deposed that small goods were customarily made of greatly inferior meat. •James Knight, a butcher, however, repudiated these remarks as referring to the trade generally. The Magistrate commented strongly on the necessity for the strictest supervision of the meat trade, and the wrong of using inferior meat for small goods. The defendant was fined 20s and costs. The proceedings, were taken under the Police Offences Act by the police, the Sydenham Council not having acted under the Public Health Act.
