THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM.
By telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Feb. 11. The following fourteen have been selected for the next test match :—Hill, Trumble, Darling, Armstrong, Kelly, Duff, Syd. Gregory, Noble, Trumper, Howell, Eady, Saunders, Hopkins, C. Gregory. The final selection will take place on Thursday. It is almost certain Darling will not play.
A novel game of cricket was played at Timaru lately between a team of ladies and eleven bachelors. The gentlemen used broomsticks, and had to bat left hand, while in fielding they were restricted to the use of one hand only. Slow underhand bowling was also compulsory on their part. After an enjoyable game, the match resulted in a tie. The ladies scored 47 runs in each innings, while the gentlemen made 28 and 66. This recalls the match of a similar kind played on the old Arai ground several seasons ago, but the local ladies were too good for the men, and gave them a sound drubbing.
