'TRAMWAY.

(Per Press Associate n.) DUNEDIN, last night

At the City Council to-night the question of the purchase of the Rosslyn tramway by the city was mentioned. The liquidators oi the Rosslyn Tramway Company having submitted the conditions on which tenders were invited, Councillors who spoke favored the acquiring of the lines, which include the first electric instalment in the colony. The matter was referred to a committee.

CARNIVAL BY ELECTRIC LIGHT

An open-air carnival was held at Carisbrooke to-night, to raise funds to improve the grounds. The gathering was attended by about (>OOO people. Sports were carried out by the aid of electric light. About £l5O will be realised. A BENEFIT. About £SO was realised for the benefit of C. Frith, the veteran cricketer, by the match between Otago and Southland. POLITICS IN DUNEDIN

'fbe Workers’ Political Committee, met to-night, and passed a resolution that the action of J. B. Traveller and 11. M. Stewart in connection with the recent Caversham election, by giving publicity in the press to their alleged grievances, in putting an unconstitutional motion, is incorrect and inimical to the interests of the committee, and in the general interests of the workers it is desirable that these persons be removed from the committee, and that the unions represented be respectfully asked to withdraw them permanently as delegates. As an original member of the committee Mr Warren was censured. THE NINTH.-

The send-off to the Ninth Contingent will be confined to a function at Port Chalmers. There will be no speechifying at Dunedin, except an address to he given on Saturday by the Governor when he will review the battalion.
