(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, last night, In the paint-stealing cases no evidence was given. Accused were remanded for a week. The bail was doubled. CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Henry Adams was charged at the Police Court with driving a motor car at a greater rate of speed than four miles an hour. The police stated in their evidence that the car was going between 10 and 12 miles an hour in the main street. The Bench found that the bye-law under which the information was laid had been repealed, and apparently no protection to the public was provided. They were satisfied the evidence was clear that the car had teen driven between 10 and 12 miles an hour. The case was dismissed without prejudice. AUCKLAND, last night. The Auckland Friendly Societies Conference, after consideration of the reports from Dunedin and Timaru, has adopted a report recommending the establishing of a dispensary. At a meeting of the Trades and Labor Council, it was stated that the Citv Council Chamber had been placed at the disposal of the Conference to meet in Auckland shortly. Conveyances will be provided gratuitous y to take the delegates round the distr ct. A resolution was passed, sympathising with the Huntly miners in • their dismissal, and stat:ng that the Council is in possession of evidence that the singling out for dismissal by employers of New Zealand of men who have taken a prominent part in the unions is most marked and discreditable. It emphasises the necessity for a federation of labor to protect officers and prominent members against persecution for what really is the common cause of organised labor. It was further resolved it be an instruction to the delegates to present a request to their unions not to support any baker using flour made by trust mills. WANGANUI, last night. In the Supreme Court this morning, Judge Edwards gave judgment for plaintiff for £SO and costs in the ease Alfred Goldsbury v - the D.erKs claim for damages for slander.
