By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigh t London, April 1 The Alma, a passenger steamer running between Southampton and Havre, collided at night with the barque Cambrian Princess, whose captain, chief officer, and nine of the crew were drowned.

The Quebec liner Preteria took fire at sea. As there was danger of 187 barrels of petroleum in the lower hold catching fire, all the passengers were transferred in a rough sea to the steamer Mooraland, which conveyed the Pretoria back to New York.

Melbourne, April 2. The s.s. Gabo has not yet been floated, The passengers remain aboard.
