ORMOND TENNIS CLUB.

A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING

Ihe Ormond Tennis Club gave a i successful dance in the Ormond [ Hall on Thursday evening, the gathering being one of the most enjoyable i T f d ,n the district for many years. , p ™‘ l , B tendered to Mr and Mis Julius waesai m consideration of their expiWl.lu , kindness to members of the Club during the past season, and no ; efforts were spared to make the func- . f lO . 1 . 1 as Attractive as possible. The ball was beautifully decorated, and the visitor on stepping over the door- . } vaj ! foui A d hl f llsclf a veritable fairyland. On all ;ides there was a proP ul ’S as and karaka branches with the feathery toi toi affording a contrast. Here and there the Cricket Club s colors, blue and orange, and Tennis Club colors, green and white, were displayed, forming a prominent feature m the decorations. The stage was transformed into a drawing-room, and afforded a quiet place of retreat tor those who preferred to watch the course o£ the dancers rather than participate in the dance. The decorations were carried out on an elaborate spale, and reflected great credit upon Miss Gordon and Mr R. Barton, who were chiefly responsible for the work lhe President of the Club, Mrs W. Graham, and the .secretary, Miss P. Ingleton, were most assiduous in their efforts to promote the happiness of the visitors, and nothing was left undone that would in any way tend to their comfort. Tiie supper, always an important factor in assuring the success of a social gathering, was in the hands of Misses L. IVI. and K. Newman and Miss Truce, whose arrangements werp most complete. The tables were prettily decorated, and there was a plentiful supply of edibles of a choice kind. The music was excellent. Mr E. Parnell presided at the piano, wh Ist Messrs Massey, Jardine, and Caesar did good service with the violin. Extras were played by Miss Grey and Mrs Graha-m. The floor was in capital order, thanks to the efforts of Mr A. McKenzie. Prior to the supper adjournment a pleasing ceremony took pldce, a presentation of a handsome gold bracelet being made to Mrs Caesar., and a liquer stand to Mr Caesar. The presentation was made by the President, Mrs Graham, who made pleasing reference to the kind hospitality of Mr and Mrs Caesar. In handing the gifts to that lady and gentleman, Mrs Graham remarked : “We trust that whenever you look at them they will serve to remind you of the many pleasant afternoons we have spent during the past season.’’ In returning thanks Mr Caesar.said that the presentation had almost taken away his breath, and he found it hard to find adequate words to express his feelings. It had always been a pleasure to Mrs Caesar and himself to meet members of the Club, and they ,'ojked forward to having many more such happy afternoons together. On’ behalf of the visitors, Mr ’ J.. W. Bright thanked the President of the Club lor the pleasant evening. A word of praise is due to Mr Jardine for the manner in which he , worked, the success of the dance being in a great measure due to his efforts.
