ANTHRAX IN WAIKATO. The outbreak of anthrax bear Te A wamutu will be most unwelcome intelligence to all owners of stock. The fact that the men who led the cattle are ill, one of them very seriously, seem to leave no doubt as to the nature of the disease. It will be a very costly thing for stock owners and for the colony if the disease is allowed to spread, it is believed that by stringent precautions the disease can be confined to a restricted area, and it is to be hoped that the authorities will take the greatest precautions in the matter. This is a subject to which the. Agricultural Societies and Farmers’ Unions should g ve close attention. We do not wish to see our Waikato neighbors- harassed in anyway, but in the interests of all it is urgently necessary that the most stringent measures be taken to prevent the further spread of the • disease. The dangerous nature of it is shown by the condition of the three men at Te Awamutu, but still it is not believed that the danger to human life is great, excepting as regards those who handle beasts that are affected by the disease There is, however, a great danger that the disease will rapidly spread among the herds if the greatest precautions are not taken.
