Tho fame of thi world’s champion, Major Taylor, and the expected contests between him and Dor Walker were responsible for a burnpei attendance, estimated at twenty-five thousand. Taylor mado his debut in the fourth heat of the Wyalong Handicap. Starting fivo yards behind scratch, he only managed to get thirl to McLean, with 55yd8, and Drinkwater, 60yds start, beating Wilksch and several other first class men. Tho champion had tho misfortune to slip his pedal just bofore the finish, but ho came home with a magnificent sprint. Tho final resulted : Walker, 25yds 1 Goodson, 25yds ... ••• 2 Boidi, 40yds 3 Tho winner was blocked till the last lap, but camo through with a rush and won by nearly two lengths. Time, 57 3-5. Tho Quarter-rniio International Championship brought out most of the cracks, including Chalmers, who won his boat in 33 seconds. In tho semi-final Taylor covered the distance in 30 3-ssec, and Walkor in 31sec

respectively. The final resultod: •Taylor 1 Walker ... ... ... 2 I Lewis 3 Taylor went to the front, followed by Walkor, and tboy watchod each other. I Lewis shot to tho front. Taylor and Walker went in pursuit. Leaving Lewi* behind they made a great finish, Taylor winning by a clear length. Tiino, 32 25. The Walkor Plate, of five miles, produced another splendid finish, Walker winning by half a wheel from Goodson, with Mutton third. Taylor, who was blocked, catno fourth. Time, 11.23.
