RUSSIA’S TRICKS.
TORPEDO BOATS AND -THE
DARDANELLES,
By. .telegraph—Press Association— Copyright, LONDON, Jan. 7,
It transpires that, Russia was about to despatch four torpedo vessels through the Dardanelles. Great, Britain protested, at Ike same time reserving the right to demand similar privileges for herself. Russia, on the grounds that the-tor-pedo boats had not yet received their armaments, maintains that a disarmed vessel flying the commercial flag is not a warship. Reuter’s Agency states that Germany takes a neutral attitude in the matter, and informed Russia of this fact months ago. It is expected that Italy and Austria will support Great Britain’s attitude in the Dardanelles incident. The French remain neutral. There is much British indignation over Germany’s refusal to uphold the Treaty of Paris. London newspapers request oilieial information on the incident. So lar only tiie Porte’s version has been published,. The Daily Telegraph stated that two Russian torpedo boats passed the Dardanelles a fortnight ago.
