BURGLARY AND CONFESSION

At the Police Court, John Henry Kennedy and George William Taylor were charged with breaking into Sutherland Co.’s premises at OnebuDga, on Jan. 2nd, and stealing a safe and £SO 15s 3d, and also damaging the safe. Accused wero further charged with breaking into the store of Boy Hall, at Mangero, on December 23rd, and stealing XI Is m money and XI 10b 3d worth of CigarOttOß. Throe young women gave evidence, ono of whom was a sister of prisoner Kennedy. Another said that she was engaged to be married to the other piisoner laylor. Detective Mcllvency read a confession by prisoner Kennedy, in which he stated that Taylor induced him to commit the burglary, as Taylor wanted money to got married. Ho read the statement to Taylor, who did not dispute it. Taylor now denies that ho led Kennedy into tho affair, and said that it was no use saying ono was worse thun the other. Detective Hollis road a confession from Taylor, giving details of tho Sutherland robbery. Tho statement showed that the two men put off in a boat with the sufe and other things from Sutherland s, and landed on somo rocks, where they rifled ran- safe and went halves. When the robbery was discovered accused said they would restoro the money to make it oasier for them, Dotcctivo Hollis read a confession of the Mangoro burglary furnished by Taylor, and countersigned by Kennedy. Prisonor3 pleaded guilty, and wero committed to the Supremo Court for aentonco.
