'ALLEGED SUNDAY TRADING

At Waikouaiti to-day a charge of selling liquor on Sunday against the licensee of tho Waikouaiti Kailway Hotel was dismissed, as the two men denied having been served with the liquor, though they had previously .told a different story. INFECTIOUS DISEASE. The Public Works Departaicnt has granted the use of the old Immigration* Barracks at Caversham as a temporary hospital for infectious diseases. "This has been rendered necessary by the prevalence of scarlet fever and German measles. Since December Ist 163 cases of scarlet fever were reported in the city and suburbs, and 25 frpni the country.
MINISTER FOR PUBLIC WORKS. The Hon. Hall-Jones returned from his visit to Central Otago to-night. He leaves for the North to-morrow.
