THE HALF-HOLIDAY.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night.
To day a deputation representing the retailors of the city waited on the Mayor, and urged that tho weekly half-holiday should not be changed from Thursday to Saturday. They said that tho agitation in favor of Saturday closing did not represent tho opinions of, the public and that tho change . would involve serious loss to retailers. The Mayor said that so far as tho City Council was concerned delegates had been appointed, and there the matter ended. He pointed out that tho City Council would' have a majority amongst the delegates at tho Conference, and ho and other City Couneil delegates had declined to byid themselves to any particular Bide, bus ho now promised to look closely into the matter, and Act, and to toko care that both sides of thiß very important question were placed before the Conference.
