YOUNG MAN DROWNED

| Christchurch, last night. Arthur James, aged 22, ongincor of tho steam launch at Lyttelton, was drowned this morning. Apparently ho slippod whilo attempting to stop from tho launch to tho wharf, and struck his head; he was stunned aud then- fell into *tho water.
A SHOOTING FATALITY.
At Leestou to-day George Phillip Ireland, a mombor of tho Ellcsmoro Mounted Rides, was brought up on a charge of the murder of Peter Boag, another mombor. The case arose out of tho shooting of Boag, a few days ago, tho jury at tho inquost finding that the fatal shot was discharged from Ireland's rido. Tho polico said, that after an exhaustive enquiry into tho circumstancos surrounding tho fatality they had no evidonco to offer in support of tho charge of murder. Accused was discharged.
