KAITI ROAD BOARD.
Tho monthly mooting of tho above Board was hold last evening, there boing presont : —Mosers J. A. Harding (chairman), F. C. Bull, A. Bridges, A. Keefer, and F. Harris.
HERSCHELL ROAM. A petition was received from Messrs C. A. Sherriff, A. Hansen, T. Brosnahan, w. Bowler, and R. Peach, junr., residents in the vicinity of Herschell road, requesting the Board to take steps to have completed with as little delay as possible the formation and metalling of Herschell road, and the cleaning and deepening of the drains for a distance of three or four chains from what was known aB Hansen’s corner, along Herschell road. The petitioners pointed out that owing to the increase of the traffic upon this road, the above works were necessary. It was decided that tho Board would expend tho sum of £lO if £8 was subscribed by the petitioners.
OWEN ROAD DRAIN, Mr Arthur F. Bridges wroto re the Owen Road drain, giving notice that as owner of sections 252 and 332, Haiti Block, ho would hold tho Board responsible for the damage already done and what may be done in future to the abovementioned sections through the concentration of storm water and its diversion from Owen Road upon his property. The Engineer furnished a lengthy report in regard to the matter, and pointed out that the cheapest and most effective remedy was to construct a culvert acrosß DeLautour Road. A lengthy discussion took place on the subject. The Chairman stated that if a Drainage Board was required those ratepayers who were affected should form one. It had only been the past twelvo months that they had been troubled with drainage. It was decided that Mr Bridges’ letter and the Engineer’s report be forwarded to the Board’s solicitor (Mr NolaD) for advice and consideration.
WHEATSTONE ROAD. Mr James Craig wrote drawing attention to the impassable condition of the Wheatßtone road during the wet season. He understood there was some unexpended portion of the loan money in hand, and if this were expended and a small further sum out of your ordinary funds added to it, the Tirirangi Road Board would assist by spending pound for pound of such expenditure. The work required would have to be done at once before the wet weather sets in. It was resolved that the Engineer furnish a report for consideration at next meeting.
MISCELLANEOUS. Twenty pounds’ worth of work was passed, to be expended in accordance wit& the recommendations of tho Overseer’s report. The Overseer, Mr Colbert, reported that a number of persons were in the habit of grazing their horses on the roads. He had warned them, but they had taken no notice.
It was decided that any offender in thp future would be prosecuted. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £99 14s Bd. Accounts amounting to £126 12s were passed for payment, the sum of £BS 12s, half-yearly Interest, being included. In reference to an application from Colonel Porter to an award of 1892 as to the conveyance of a piece of land under the Public Works Act, it was decided that a committee of three members of the Board meet Col. Porter and Major HeCredie to-day to enter into details.
