Bv Tolecraph—Press Association. Masterton, last night. The result of the E flat horn is : S, Meilor, Waihi, 92 points, 1 ; H. Jones, North-oast Valley, 89, 2 ; W. J. McKersoy, Denniston, 87, 3. D. Epproff, Southland, 86, 4 ; C. Eorrest, Wanganui, 80, 5 ; It. Blythe, Wanganui, 75, 6; Nicholson, Wellington, 72, 7 ; T. Bauchoppe, Kaikorai, 70, 8 ; C. Yeoinan, Gisborne, 70, 9; H. C. Strong, Hawera, 69, 10 ; D. Whalen, North-east Valley, 65, 11; H. Hull, Wellington, 56, 12; A. Williams, Ilauraki, 46, 13 ; A. Williams, Hauraki, 40, 14. The winner of this solo is a rnero boy, 13 years of age, son of the conductor of the Waihi Band. When the result was read out the audience insisted on the little fellow being brought on the stage, and ho was accorded prolonged applause. Mr Ord Hume expressed extreme surpriso on Boeing who the winner was, and warmly complimented him, remarking that he was a fine specimen of the musical youth of Now Zealand. A mooting of the Executive of the Band Contest Committeo is boing hold to consider a complaint by the Wellington Garrison Band to the ofl'oet that the contest judge informed the Wellington men of tho test selection played on Wednesday evening, this being contrary to the rulos of tho North Island Brass Band Association.
ABBOCATION OF AWARDS.
By Tolograph—Press Association. Masterton, last night. Tho judge’s decision in connection with the first and second test selections was given this evoning, shortly beforo midnight. Tho Wellington Garrison Band was first with a total of 275 points, 128 for *■ Jjo Domino Noir,” tho first test, and 147 in “ Un Ballo Maschera,” tho Becond test selection. The Wanganui Garrison Band, with a total of 272, wou the socond prizo, and Kaikorai, 245, third. Tho others wore placed in the following order North-east Valloy 234, Donniston 231, Mastorton 229, Southland 216, Woolston 210, Waihi 196, Hauraki 191, Ruahino 164, Taranaki 162, Palmorston North 149, Hawera 144, Gisborne City 136. Tho points wore given for the Besson Bhiold as follows: —Wellington 289 4 5, Wanganui 287 1-6. Tho presentation of prizes and distribution of medals took place afterwards, Wellington taking £IOO for first prizo and tho Besson Shield, Wanganui £SO for socond prizo, Kaikorai £25 for third prizo, North East Valley £ls for fourth prize, and Denniston £lO for fifth prizo. Bavor.—At tho band contest the E fiat bass competition was won by S. Signal, of Wanganui, 83 points ; P. Johnstone, Wellington, 80, 2; G. McDonald, Taranaki, 60, 3.
