SUPREME COURT.
[nx telegraph.—press association.) Wellington, last night,
Tho Supreme Court reserved its decision on an application to restrain the Magistrate from holding a scrutiny of the votes oust at tho Newtown licensing poll. Chas. Bangstono was to-day sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, and Henry Stuart was admittod to probation for conspiring to defraud Adam Sargeant. A SHIPPING MISHAP.
Tho Magisterial onquiry was commenced to-day concerning tho grounding of tho new Patoa trader Aotea on the Eagle reef off the coast of Queensland on Novomber 25, while on the voyage from Bondon to Wellington. Tho vessel was damaged to tho extent of £460 by an impact with tho rocks. Tho mishap occurred at about dusk. There were no breakers to indicate tho presence of a reef. Tho vessel camo off at high tide.
RAIBWAY WORK.
Additional workmen are being put on all unfinished railway lines. The number has boon considerably increased at both ends of tho North Island Main Trunk Railway.
