Mr Asquith and Mr Wise, AttorneyGeneral for New South Wales, wero guests of the Eighty Club. Lord Tweedmouth urged the Liberals to make greater eoneessious to the Labor iviug. Mr Asquith made out au overwhelming case for the Legislature redefining and codifying the law in regard to continuation. There was no prospect of Parliament setting aside the Tafl' Vale decision. The workmen’s real difficulty lay in the application of laws dealing with the agency of conspiracy. To Trades Unions he suggested muintainance of the froe power of combination, drawing a clear lino of demarcation between legitimate pressure and every form of violence and incitement. The same rulo must apply to combinations of employers and employed. Mr Wise defended, and explained recent industrial legislation. He regretted that Lord Lausdowne, contrary to the spirit of the resolution of the Premiers’ Conference, failed to ascertain the views of Australia and Canada before making an engagement with Germany regarding Venezuela. Australia was much affected by German development in the Pacific.
