MR SEDDON’S TOUR.

Mr Seddon, at Culvorden yesterday, statod that tho Government had bought 31,000 acres of the Highfiold estate, North Canterbury, at a prico well within tho valuers’ price. The purchaso has given general satisfaction, and tho 03tate will be cut tip and offered for settlement as soon as possible. Sorno time ago the Parnassus estate, north of tho Waiau river was offored to the Government. Mr Seddon has already aeon the estate from the Cheviot side, but on Wednesday drove through from Mondip Hill to Waiau, and saw the back of the estate. Ho liked tho land much bettor on tho Mendip side than on the Cheviot side. It contained good country, and it is probablo tho Government may purchaso. At Culverden Mr Seddon visited the school, and after delivering an address to tho children granted them a holiday. The Inspector for the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had an interview with Mr Seddon on tho question of subsidy. The Premier asked to have >i full statement of the matter sont him, and said ho would give it consideration. Ho considered the objects of tho Society of a most worthy character, and would be prepared to give the present request due consideration.
Mr Seddon returned to Loslie Hills last night, and will journey to Hamner Springs to-day.
