The match was continued in fine weather. Thero was a fair attendance. Play throughout was of an interesting character. Thompson’s bowling was the feature of tho day. In the first innings he came out with tho lino average of nine wickots for 85 runs, his record this morning being 57 balls, 4 maidens, 13 runs, 5 wickots. In tho Bocoud innings he already has two wickets to his credit. The not outs, Claxton and Jennings, made tho pace lively from the jump, Claxton kuocking 13 oil one ovor of Hargroavo’s. This brought on Thompson, who at once found (Jlaxton’s middle stump. His score included 15 boundary hits. Six for 260. With a single addod Thompson, with a yorker, broke Jennings’ middle stump. Seven for 261. Then he scattered Rowland’s timbers before that batsman had got started. Eight for 267. He did ditto oy Gifl'en when the latter had mado 14—nine lor 272—and brought the end by adding Travers to his trophies, Bosanquet takiug a nice catch. Requiring 249 to avert an innings defeat South Australians followed on. Tho innings oponod inauspiciously, Thompson immediately dismissing Evans for 1. The Hill and Hack purfcnorship waa responsible lor some fine aggressive cricket, tho hall-century appearing in a little ovor forty minutos, and tho century in seventy minutes. Then Hill slowed down. The second wickot fell at 188. Hack, who playod a solid, chanceleas innings for his 90, succumbod to a beauty from Dowson ; three for 205. After Gifien’s arrival play became slow. His end was hastened by one from Thompson finding his bad leg. Just afterwards he pulled one on to the wicket; four for 240. Reodman and G&hrs were steadily putting on runs when play-ceased.
