U lias been decided to make arrangements to open the public library, here to country subscribers, Parcels of books will lie sent by rail to any railway station within a distance of seventy-five miles. .Special regulations have been adopted in connection svith the system, which is a new departure. The Board of Governors also decided to ask Mr Carnegie lor a grant of ten thousand pounds towards the library. At a meeting of the Canterbury Typographical Union on Saturday night the sum of £2s,was voted towards a fund for the assistance of the lockedoulj members of the Auckland furniture trades, A resolution was also passed, urging Government to take steps to have the dispute in the Auckland furniture trade heard .without delay. Mr Rolleston’s Memorial Committee decided to issue circulars inviting subscriptions front one shilling upwards. The Library Committee liavo been recommended by the Board of Governors to furnish a rcading-rooiti for, the exclusive use of ladies.
