The unfortunate people who live in Townsville are having terrible experiences. The most recent visitation is a Hood, which fortunately is now subsiding. A few weeks ago there was a terrific hurricane, and in addition to some loss of life, enormous damage was done. It is estimated that in Townsville alone, without taking into consideration the losses of neighboring districts, damage to the extent of £200,000 was done. As this to a large extent falls upon poor people, the hardship becomes the greater to hear. In New Zealand we sometimes have reason to complain of our wet or our dry seasons, but it is seldom we have any experiences which in severity approach those in AustraliaThe lot of the people of Townsville, at the present time, must be a very unhappy one, and they will have I,he deep sympathy of the people of this colony,
