IMPROVED WOOL SALES. CROSSBRED WOOL FOR CONTINENT. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright Received 1.2 a.m., May 7. London May G. At the wool sales Buxton, Bnlme, Jacomb, and Scare's catalogue comprised 8(575 Australian and 3501 bales from Punta Arenas. There was an unusually largo attendance, buyers being preseut from all quarters. There was an excited competition for all sorts. Compared with the March closing rates, merinos were at par to 5 per cent, in advance, tine crossbreds 5 to 71 per cent, medium and low fullv .10 per cent. There were similar advances in lambs’ and clothing wools. Continental buyers were operating strongly in crossbreds.
SUBSTANTIAL ADVANCE ON LAST SERIES. Messrs Dalgety and Co. received the following cablegram from London last evening :— 11 The wool sales openod to-day, there being an indifferent selection. There was a largo attendance of buyers, and competition was very animated. So far hardly any Merinos have boon offered. Merinos and fine crossbreds aro higher by a half-penny per lb. For medium cross bred wools prices are higher by 15 per cent. Prices for coarse crossbred wools aro on the average 10 per cent, higher on the closing rates of last series.”
