The Premier makes the following announcement in regard to old ago pensions : Compared with what was paid to 31st March, 1902, thero is for tho financial year just closed an inereaso of only £3OOO ior tho year. From this must be deducted £IOSO refunds by Courts, paid to public account, aud £7OO duo iu 1902 and paid this year, which reduces tho increase to £1250. In other words tho expenditure of 1902 has been held in hand. This amounts to a saving on tho estimates of something like £IO,OOO. Tho number of ponsioners on the rolls on 31st March, 1902, was 12,776. Tho number on the rolls'on 31st March, 1903, was 12,557, a decreaso of 219.
