Newcastle, May 31. Tho Dcsdomona, in ballast from South Africa, had a thrilling time during tho gale. Thirteen miles off tho coast tho ballast shifted, and the vessel was thrown on her beam ends. Tito captain and two of tho crew wero washed overboard, hut clutched tho foie braces and regained tbo deck. The vessel drifted shoreward.?, with the main yards buried in the sea. Tho crew worked desperately to trim tbo ballast. Tho gale abated in tbo evening, and the vessel was righted.
Tbo steamer Oakland, which was wrecked on Wednesday morning last when trying to enter Pert Stephens, Now South Wales, was a steel vessel of tho following dimensions : Length, 1541't ; breadth, 24ft; depth, 10.5 ft; tonnage, 393. She was built at Dumbarton, Scotland, in 1890, and was owned by tho North Coast Steam Navigation Company of Sydney. The steamer Bellinger, wliica rescued tiic survivors, is a well-known trader on the north coast of New South Wales.
