CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL.
Per Press Association., Christchurch, Inst night. The City Council finds that as the amount of the loan already authorised for abattoirs is insufficient to compete the abattoirs it will apply to the Colonial Treasurer for a further sum of .£SOOO, making X‘20,000 altogether. Tho" Mayor, at a meeting of the City Council tills evening, protested against tho position of the Council in having to look after cases of infectious diseases, but without control over tho Hospital Board. He said that body should be constituted a local health authority, or else the Council should be given rnoro power.
